Posted September 14, 2018 08:03:52 A teacher in New York City has been charged with raping a 15-year-old student after the teacher was caught having sex with her boyfriend while she was working at a school in the Bronx.
Police said in a press release on Monday that they have charged the teacher with three counts of sexual assault and two counts of attempted sexual assault of a person under the age of 18.
They are also seeking the expulsion of the student and the expulsion from the New York public school system.
The student was a student at East New York High School.
Her boyfriend was not arrested in the case.
The victim told police that on May 25, 2018, the teacher told her to wear a condom when they were working together, according to the police release.
She said that after that, she would be told that she was too drunk to give consent, according the release.
When she refused to take the condom off, the professor told her, “You need to get it on.”
“He then proceeded to rape her,” police said.
According to the release, the student told police the professor forced her to perform oral sex on him, which she said she could not do.
The school district did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The New York Daily News reported that the school district has since suspended the teacher.
“I don’t know how to respond to the whole situation,” the student said.
“I’m a 15 year old kid.
I didn’t know if I wanted to be in school.”
“I feel really violated.
I feel like this is the worst thing that could have happened,” the teen told the newspaper.
“It’s hard for me to imagine what would happen if this happened to someone younger.”
The incident occurred in March 2018 and occurred while the student was working in the classroom, according a statement from the district.
In a press conference, Superintendent David Cappelli said that the district’s “special education and behavioral issues are of critical importance” to the district, and that the student’s case is the result of “a serious and systemic failure.”
He added that he would work with the student to address her concerns and “re-engage her in school activities.”
A spokesperson for the Bronx District Attorney’s office said in an email that the investigation was ongoing and that no charges had been filed.
School district spokesman Brian Glynn said that “this is a tragic incident,” but that the case has not yet been presented to the board.
He also said that in an effort to “help students navigate these difficult circumstances,” he would be contacting students about school safety and advising them on appropriate behaviors and responses.
On Monday, the school board met to discuss the situation and asked the district to investigate the teacher, according in a statement.
Glynn told the Daily News that the teacher’s employment with the district was terminated after the district found out about the incident.
A statement from East New NY confirmed that the girl was a member of the school’s board of trustees.
The statement read: “We are grateful to the New Jersey Department of Education for their quick and professional response to this very difficult and challenging situation.
We look forward to working with the NYPD and other appropriate authorities to thoroughly investigate the allegations and to identify the individuals involved.”
On social media, some students expressed outrage about the case, with many calling for the school to be removed from the curriculum.
