The California State Teachers Association (CSTA) has announced that it will be hiring a lesbian teacher.
The CSTA is the largest union in the state, and according to the union, the decision was made after a survey showed that 40% of the state’s teachers were lesbian.
The announcement comes a few months after the union announced it was hiring a transgender teacher.
The CSTA did not disclose the reason for the hiring of a lesbian.
According to a CSTA press release, the lesbian teacher will start with the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) next school year.
“This teacher will join a diverse group of talented teachers who share our shared vision of building a better school system and community,” the statement reads.
The hiring of the lesbian will also include “a strong commitment to equity, equity in education and the inclusion of LGBT people in our community.”
“As a lesbian, I want to make the most of this opportunity,” said the lesbian.
“I want to be able to work in a setting where I am valued and recognized for my contribution to our community.
I want the opportunity to be part of an organization that truly values diversity and inclusion and where I can have a voice.”
The CSTAs hiring announcement follows a similar announcement by the National Association of Black Educators.
