A Texas teacher’s certification could be coming soon to the Lone Star State.
A group of educators has submitted a petition to the state Education Department asking for a statewide certification program that could begin by 2020.
The petition states that Texas is in need of a comprehensive teacher certification system that would provide all of its teachers with the same skills, knowledge and experience to effectively serve our students and ensure the quality of instruction we offer.
The teachers are asking for certification to teach math, English, science, English as a second language, literacy and leadership.
The petition states the certification would be administered by the Texas Department of Education and would be issued through a state-approved provider.
The teachers are also asking for the ability to teach for up to three years.
The group, Texas Teachers for Education, has a number of supporters, including the Texas Association of Educators, Texas Education Association, and Texas Education Partners.
